The Canadian Muslim Lawyers Association (CMLA) is pleased that the Court dismissed the Attorney General’s eleventh-hour application for an injunction to ban today’s Al-Quds Day rally.

In the face of this urgent challenge to constitutional freedoms, the CMLA worked diligently to provide legal expertise and assistance alongside the National Council of Canadian Muslims (NCCM) to support Shane Martinez as counsel. Together we ensured a robust defense of the community’s right to protest and exercise their rights to speech and assembly.

The CMLA remains steadfast in its commitment to protecting the Charter rights to free speech and peaceful assembly for all Canadians, while simultaneously fighting against hate and bigotry. We look forward to reviewing the written reasons for Justice Centa’s decision.
