CMLA (Ontario Chapter) Endorses the Good Governance Coalition in the 2023 Bencher Elections

The Canadian Muslim Lawyers Association - Ontario Chapter (“CMLA Ontario”) proudly endorses the Good Governance Coalition (GGC) and their bencher candidates in the upcoming 2023 Bencher elections for the Law Society of Ontario (LSO).

As an organization committed to access to justice and principles of equity, diversity and inclusion, CMLA Ontario recognizes the importance of supporting the GGC. It is important that our membership votes to elect candidates that understand our members’ lived experiences and represents the diversity of our profession. Benchers must understand the systemic barriers that equity-seeking groups face and commit to ensuring their voices and concerns are heard within the LSO.

The GGC (individually and collectively) have a wealth of experience and have made meaningful commitments in these areas. The CMLA has greatly benefited from the positive engagement and support of numerous GGC candidates including (but not limited to) Isfahan Merali, Gerald Chan and Jennifer Gold.

The 2023 bencher election will occur from April 19-28, 2023. CMLA Ontario encourages all of its members to review the policy positions of the Coalition’s candidates to ensure they have the information necessary to cast their vote in favour of a more progressive future for the Law Society of Ontario: https://www.goodgovernancecoalition.ca/
